As I begin my fourth year as principal, I am extremely proud
to be a part of the Sullivan learning community. As a relatively small high school with
approximately 825 students, there is a great deal of personal interaction that
occurs among students, faculty and staff at Sullivan. This truly benefits our students, as studies
have shown that smaller learning communities positively effect student
achievement.
There are several new initiatives this year at Sullivan, all
aimed at providing both a variety of options and the best possible education
for our students.As a CPSTransformationSchool,
our Freshmen and Sophomore English, Mathematics and Science curricula are
designed so as to engage our students in state of the art teaching and learning
strategies by our teachers, who have been professionally trained in the new
curriculum.
Our very successful MedicalCareersAcademy, now in its ninth
year, has been expanded to accommodate additional students. In addition, we have added another medical
program, Allied Health Care, to our selection of career-ready programs offered
to our students.A Junior Reserve
Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program has also been implemented this year
and is open to all students.
Once again, after school and recovery classes will be
offered beginning in November, whereby students can make up any credits they
may be lacking for graduation. This is a
wonderful opportunity for those students to get back on-track for graduation.Tutoring is also available to our students
both before and after school.In
addition, we have an extensive after school program, which includes the After
School Matters and Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
programs.Beginning in October, the
school will be open on Saturdays to provide additional tutoring for our
students, as well as access to computer labs and the library. The big gym, as well as the swimming pool are
also open.
I hope you will find our website to be a very useful source
of information.Please feel free to
visit Sullivan whenever you are in the area.
